Returning Residents
Many Jamaicans living overseas eagerly anticipate the day they can return home. Some plan to retire, others aim to invest, and many hope to work and share the valuable experience and expertise they have gained abroad.
Relocating and re-establishing oneself in Jamaica requires thoughtful planning. Historically, Returning Residents have faced significant challenges due to a lack of accessible information. To address this, a group has been specifically created to provide comprehensive advice and guidance to facilitate the re-entry process for Jamaican nationals and their families. This community resource aims to ease their transition back home and support their integration into the development of our country.
Recognizing the importance of supporting Returning Residents, the Government of Jamaica has also taken steps to refine procedures and make the relocation process smoother. One such initiative is the Charter for Long-Term Returning Residents, introduced in 1993. This Charter includes provisions aimed at simplifying the re-entry process and ensuring that Jamaicans overseas can return home with greater ease.
