Acre

An acre is a standard unit of land measurement commonly used in Jamaica, particularly for larger plots such as agricultural land, spacious residential properties, or public parks. One acre equals 43,560 square feet, roughly equivalent to the size of a football field. In suburban areas, residential lots typically range from a quarter to half an acre, while larger properties in rural or estate settings can span one to five acres. The concept of an acre dates back to the Middle Ages, where it originally represented the amount of land that could be plowed in a day by a person using an ox. This unit of measurement has remained a consistent reference in land transactions since then.
