What’s the Difference Between a Real Estate Broker and a Real Estate Dealer?

In Jamaica, the terms real estate broker and real estate dealer are often used interchangeably to describe the same role. Both refer to licensed professionals who facilitate the buying and selling of properties. They act as intermediaries, guiding clients through the process, handling tasks such as drafting contracts, negotiating prices, and ensuring all transactions comply with legal requirements. These professionals typically earn a commission based on the final sale price of the property.

Real estate sales agents, on the other hand, work under the supervision of a broker or dealer. They assist with property listings, client interactions, and other tasks but do not operate independently.

While the distinction between brokers and dealers may exist in other countries, in Jamaica, they share similar responsibilities and functions within the real estate industry. Updated on 15 January 2025
