Hello I’m trying to obtain a relastate license in Jamaica, can you help?

Step 1: Take the Real Estate Course

Your first step is enrolling in a Pre-Licensing Course for Salesmen, offered by the Real Estate Training Institute (RETI). This course, in collaboration with the Real Estate Board (REB), teaches you the essentials of real estate. Think of it as the foundation that prepares you for a rewarding career.

What Will You Learn?
The course covers practical topics like:

  • Property Laws – Understanding land ownership and building regulations.
  • Planning and Development – How communities and neighborhoods are designed.
  • Construction Basics – Learning what makes a house strong and durable.
  • Valuations – How to assess the value of a property.
  • Marketing – Strategies to attract buyers and sellers.
  • Contract Law – The rules behind legal agreements.

You’ll also gain hands-on experience through group assignments, presentations, and an exam to test your knowledge.


Step 2: Gather Your Documents and Apply

Once you’ve completed the course and passed the exam, you’re ready to apply for your real estate license with the Real Estate Board (REB). This step involves assembling key documents that show you’re qualified to become a professional agent.

What You’ll Need

  • Application Forms – These are available through the REB.
  • Certified Passport Photos – Verified by a Justice of the Peace (JP) or attorney.
  • Reference Letters – Written by respected community members, such as a JP, teacher, or doctor.
  • Proof of Address – A utility bill or letter from a JP works for this.
  • Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) – A photocopy will do.
  • Police Report – To show you have a clean record.
  • Bankruptcy Receipt – Proof that you’re financially responsible.

Step 3: Get Registered

After submitting your application, the Real Estate Board will review everything. If you meet all the criteria, you’ll be officially registered and receive:

  • unique registration number.
  • certificate of licensure.
  • Your name listed on the Public Register, so clients can confirm your professional status.

Step 4: Join the Realtors Association of Jamaica (RAJ)

Membership in the Realtors Association of Jamaica (RAJ) opens doors to industry resources, training, and networking opportunities. It’s a step that helps you stay ahead in this ever-evolving market.
