Does Passing the Jamaica RETI Exam Make Me a Licensed Real Estate Agent?

No. While passing the exam is a significant milestone, it does not automatically make you a licensed real estate agent. In Jamaica, you must complete additional steps before you can legally operate as an agent. Here’s what you need to do:

To officially begin practicing as a real estate<estate agent in Jamaica, you’ll need to complete the application process and submit the following original documents to the Main Office of the Real Estate Board:

Required Documents for Application Vetting

  1. Completed Application Form
  2. Completed Fit and Proper Form
  3. Two Certified Passport-Size Photos
    • Certified by a Justice of the Peace (JP) or Attorney at Law.
    • The certifying JP cannot be used as a reference.
  4. Application Fee
    • Payment of the applicable application fee.
  5. Three Reference Letters
    • References can include:
      • Justice of the Peace
      • Minister of Religion
      • Medical Doctor
      • Police Officer
      • Active Real Estate Dealer (excluding your employer)
      • Senior Teacher or Principal
      • Civil Servant (senior rank or above)
      • Bank Manager
  6. Proof of Address
    • Utility bill or a letter from a JP confirming your address.
  7. Copy of TRN (Taxpayer Registration Number)
  8. Police Report
  9. Bankruptcy Receipt

Next Steps

Once your documents are submitted, they will be vetted by the Real Estate Board. An officer will then contact you with further instructions regarding your application status and the steps required to finalize your licensing process.

Ensure all your documents are complete and accurate to avoid delays. Best of luck as you move forward in your real estate career!
