Marcus Garvey, one of Jamaica’s most important heroes, was born in Saint Ann in 1887 and grew up to inspire people all over the world. He believed that everyone should work hard to take care of themselves and their communities, and he taught that owning land was one of the best ways to do this. In Jamaica, his ideas are still helping to shape plans for building better communities, making sure people have homes, and protecting the environment. Around the world, Garvey’s message encourages people to save and invest wisely, especially in things like land and houses, to create a strong future for their families. He started a group called the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) to bring people together, help them understand the importance of owning land, and build strong, united communities. Even today, his teachings continue to inspire fairness, teamwork, and success for everyone.
