The Greater Kingston Metropolitan Area (KMA) is a significant urban and suburban region in Jamaica, encompassing approximately 60–70 square miles and including the parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew, as well as the suburban section of St. Andrew. Positioned on the Leeward side of the Blue Mountains, the KMA extends from the coastal areas at sea level up to an average elevation of 1,250 feet in the northern foothills. Administered by the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC), established in 1923 through the merger of local government bodies, the KMA serves as a central hub within the Kingston Metropolitan Region (KMR). The KMR also covers the Spanish Town urban area and the Portmore Municipality, totaling about 30,000 acres. By 2024, the KMA had a population of approximately 600,000, reflecting a 0.5% increase from the previous year. This metropolitan area is a focal point for economic, cultural, and administrative activities in Jamaica, driving growth and development in the region.
