Meadsfield

Meadsfield is a tranquil rural village located in the parish of Manchester, Jamaica. Situated amidst the island’s lush landscapes, it offers a serene environment characterized by its agricultural roots and close-knit community.

Manchester Parish, established in 1814, is known for its three mountain ranges—the Carpenters Mountains, the May Day Mountains, and the Don Figuerero Mountains—with the highest point being 2,770 feet above sea level in the Carpenters Mountains. The landscape is predominantly limestone, leading to features such as cockpits, sinkholes, caves, and underground passages. Despite the rocky terrain, the parish is fertile, producing crops like bananas, coffee, pimento, annatto, ginger, and citrus fruits, including the ortanique—a hybrid between an orange and tangerine—developed in Manchester in 1920. The parish capital, Mandeville, established in 1816, is notable for its historical buildings, including the Mandeville Hotel, one of the oldest in the Caribbean, and the Manchester Golf Club, the oldest in the Caribbean, founded in 1868.

For those interested in exploring the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Jamaica, the area around Meadsfield in Manchester Parish offers a peaceful retreat into the island’s rich agricultural and historical landscape.
