Darliston

Darliston is a rural community in Westmoreland Parish, Jamaica, located about 16 km east-northeast of Savanna-la-Mar at an elevation of 422 meters (1,385 feet) above sea level. Part of Cornwall County, it is known for its agricultural economy, with breadfruit, livestock, and other crops being key products. Many residents engage in farming and trade, supplying both local and regional markets. In 2005, the Jamaican government invested $6.6 millionin a transport center to improve accessibility and infrastructure. The town has a strong religious presence, with the Moravian Church playing a significant role in the community. Darliston is also the birthplace of S.U. Hastings, the first Jamaican to be consecrated as a bishop of the Moravian Church, highlighting its contributions to Jamaica’s cultural and religious heritage.

Despite these strengths, Darliston faces economic and social challenges, particularly in terms of employment and community safety. While infrastructure developments have improved transportation and connectivity, crime has affected vulnerable populations, underscoring the need for enhanced security and social support programs. However, the town remains resilient, with its rich agricultural roots, cultural significance, and close-knit community continuing to define its identity. As Darliston navigates modernization, it holds onto its historic charm, striving to build a stronger future while preserving its natural beauty and heritage.
