Originally a plantation producing sugar, rum, and cattle, the area was worked by enslaved Africans. By the early 19th century, over a hundred were held there. After emancipation in 1838, many remained, shaping the local agricultural economy. Clarendon Park was once part of Jamaica’s railway network, which supported the sugar industry. However, like much of the island’s rail system, the station eventually closed. Today, Clarendon Park remains a quiet settlement, reflecting its plantation past while also being recognized for its contribution to Jamaican sports.
