What Is a Special Power of Attorney and What Can It Do?

A special power of attorney is a legal document that lets someone else act for you, but only for a specific job. Imagine you have a car that you want to sell, but you’re not able to do it yourself, maybe because you’re busy or away. You can give a special power of attorney to a friend or family member so they can help you sell that car.

This means that your friend can only sell that car and nothing else. They can’t make any other decisions for you or sell your other cars or your trucks. It’s like giving them a special pass to do just one thing. So, if you have a house you want to sell, you can write a special power of attorney that says, “I want my friend to sell my house for me.” Your friend can then go to the bank or talk to buyers about the house, but they can’t do anything else like sell your car or make choices about your money.

This kind of power is really helpful when you need someone to help you with just one specific thing, and it keeps everything clear about what that person can and cannot do. It’s a way of making sure that even if you’re not there, someone you trust can still get something important done for you, but only that one important thing.
