Garden Court House

The house is arranged as a calm architectural enclosure around a central garden court, where landscape and structure are carefully balanced to create a quiet internal world. Two linear wings frame the courtyard, their restrained concrete façades punctuated by large vertical windows that draw daylight deep into the interior rooms. The composition is deliberately symmetrical, allowing the central pathway to guide visitors through a landscaped forecourt toward the main entrance, which sits quietly at the heart of the plan. Along the ground floor, a series of glazed openings establish a direct relationship between the living spaces and the surrounding garden beds, allowing the architecture to feel both open and protected at the same time. The upper level repeats the rhythm of the ground floor but with slightly recessed openings that create subtle shading and depth across the façade. Low horizontal roof planes stretch outward above the walls, forming continuous overhangs that shield the glazing from tropical rainfall and intense sun. The restrained material palette of smooth concrete, glass, and soft interior lighting allows the architecture to remain calm and measured while the landscaping introduces texture and seasonal change. Carefully placed planting beds soften the geometry of the structure, allowing grasses, shrubs, and small trees to become part of the spatial experience as residents move through the courtyard. This conceptual residence explores how contemporary Caribbean homes can organise domestic life around a sheltered internal garden, where architecture, climate, and landscape work together to produce a peaceful living environment.
